SmackDown Live Recap – 6/4/19; Goldberg on SmackDown, New Day vs. Owens and Zayn

SmackDown kicks off with Xavier Woods and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. The Laredo crowd really loves them some Kofi Kingston. Kofi is giving us the typical “always believe in yourself” speech before we get a cool video package on Kofi’s trip to his native Ghana. It is a very emotional moment for Kofi to go back to Ghana after 26 years and give inspiration to kids who are just like him. The feel-good moment is interrupted by Dolph Ziggler who is out here complaining like he has been for the past few weeks. “It should have been me!” Kofi acknowledges the great career Dolph has had but he forgot one piece to add to his highlight reel. Kof shows us a video from December 2017 where Dolph “quit” and relinquished the United States Title. Dolph has another video to show Kofi, this one is showing Dolph beating Kofi ways back. Dolph exits and enters Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to take on Woods and Kingston.

The New Day vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn: Owens and Zayn do a good job of cutting off the ring preventing Woods to tag in Kofi. Woods hits a sick missile dropkick that allows him to tag in Kofi. Kofi hits the Boom Drop, superkick, then Trouble in Paradise for the win. As The New Day is celebrating Dolph comes out of nowhere and hits Kofi with a sick superkick. Woods gets one for his troubles.

Shane McMahon is planning on calling Roman Reigns out tonight.

A Moment of Bliss segment is next with Alexa Bliss, who hates the coffee, and special guest, Bayley. Alexa is refusing to start until they get her coffee right. Alexa isn’t a fan of SmackDown or Bayley as the Women’s Champion. Before Bayley could defend herself Alexa cuts her off for her new cup of coffee. Bayley smacks the cup out of Alexa’s hand and gets in Alexa’s face. Former Women’s Champion Carmella comes out then Charlotte Flair. Charlotte announces she is taking on Carmella and Alexa Bliss in a Triple Threat Match. The winner will face Bayley for the SD Women’s Championship at WWE Stomping Ground.

Backstage, R-Truth finds Carmella and tells her he has been trying to get in touch with Shane McMahon to adjust the rules of the 24/7 Championship. Carmella’s phone rings and it’s Shane McMahon who informs Truth he’s adjusted the rules so he can have a proper match and defend his title. R-Truth’s match is next, his opponent is headed to the ring right now! Problem is, Truth didn’t know his match comes with a stipulation. Before we go to a commercial break Elias is in the ring.

When we come back from the break we are informed that this is a Lumberjack Match with the caveat being that no lumberjack be allowed to interrupt the match for the Championship. Truth gets dumped to on the outside and while coming back in is decked by Elias who pins R-Truth and wins his second 24/7 Championship.

Problem is, the match is over which means Elias is fair game. A brawl breaks out but Elias and R-Truth both escape to the outside. They both go underneath the ring, we hear a three count, and R-Truth emerges as the 24/7 Champion again. This is wild.

No one has challenged Aleister Black. I don’t blame them. He’s smiling, why is he smiling?

Shane McMahon makes his way to the ring flanked by his new buddies The Revival. In the ring, Shane wants to replay the footage of him and his cronies taking out Roman Reigns last night on Raw. Shane equates Roman to a hyperactive puppy who needs to be disciplined. Dude, just take him to Petsmart. They have classes. The Big Dog’s music hits, The Revival tried to cut him off but he made easy work of them. As Roman walks down to the ring he is blindsided by a Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre. Shane hits another Spear and mocks Roman just as he did last night. They leave Roman laying in the ring.

Alexa Bliss vs. Carmella vs. Charlotte Flair: The action in the match starts off really crazy with everyone hitting big moves but no one getting the win. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville make their way down to the ring which distracts Carmella. I really enjoy the exchanges between Bliss and Charlotte despite Alexa’s gameplan being run and cover from Charlotte. Carmella is back in the action taking it to Charlotte. Carmella takes out Alexa but is stopped by Flair who puts her in Figure 8. Alexa comes down from the top with Twisted Bliss breaking up the submission. Carmella breaks up the pin. Alexa goes for her double knees moonsault on Carmella who moves out of the way. Charlotte hits Natural Selection but the pin was broken once again by Carmella at two. She drops Charlotte with a Superkick but can’t capitalize because she is being held down on the outside by Rose and Deville. Bliss takes advantage and hits Carmella with a DDT and picks up the win. She is now the #1 Contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Kayla Braxton conducts an interview with Lars Sullivan. Kayla asks Lars what drives him to maul people the way he has been doing for months now. Lars explains that when a lion attacks its prey, its primary function, it is called a lion. When does his primary function, he is called a freak. Lars says a bunch of big words, scares the heck out of Kayla, and exits.

Andrade and Zelina Vega head down to the ring before we go to commercial break. When we come back from the break and we’re supposed to have a match between Andrade and Apollo Crews but Andrade jumps Crews and drops him with a Hammerlock DDT before the bell even rings. Andrade’s Super Showdown opponent Finn Balor comes sprinting down to the ring and he and Andrade begin to brawl. As Finn has the upper hand he is distracted by Zelina Vega on the outside. This allows Andrade to hit Finn with a Hammerlock DDT and leave him laying in the ring.

Goldberg is here! What? No Goldberg pyro? Who approved this?

Goldberg says Taker doesn’t have to worry about getting the family Goldberg because he doesn’t want that man anywhere near the Undertaker. Goldberg talks about he’s gonna kick Taker’s ass, you get the gist. Goldberg drops this last line, “You’re next to rest in peace!” The gong hits and Undertaker appears behind Goldberg. Both men go nose to nose before more gongs and the lights go out. When they come back on Goldberg is standing alone in the ring. He tells Taker to tighten his jock strap because he’s going for a ride, whatever that means.
